STREET PASTORS REPORT TO THE 2023 ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Billericay Street Pastors continues to flourish in our community, supported continually by all the Christian churches, the local police, the local town council, Basildon Borough Council, Essex Police Fire Crime Commissioner and all of the licensed premises around the High Street area. We are authorised by the Ascension Trust to operate in Billericay and across the Basildon Borough and are a registered charity.

We continue to oversee the work of School Pastors in relationship with SMB and patrol at Billericay and Mayflower High Schools. We are also due to recommence patrolling the Railway lines across Essex in association with Greater Anglia and British Transport Police in an effort to reduce suicides on the network.

We are currently recruiting and have 5 people actively training and a further 3 shadowing our patrols to affirm God's calling on their lives to this ministry. We continue to oversee the street pastor patrols in Basildon and Schools Pastor work at Pioneer special needs school. Schools Pastors is growing and we hope o launch other projects in De La Salle School and James Hornsby School this year.

Every week we have stories coming back about how great it is to see members of the local churches reaching out and helping, caring and listening. The main post-Covid activity we have undertaken is to be good listeners. So many people have been nervous about coming back out onto the streets and have felt a comfort with having friendly faces about to talk to. We continue to signpost people for further help if needed and our relationships with CAB, MIND, Open Road, and other local help groups continues.

We are enjoying using the community hub as our base to patrol from and also reach people as they walk past either during our nightly patrols or during the day time. We host Coffee with Cops monthly on Mondays and will soon host MIND and CAB on separate occasions weekly as they see the benefit of having access to high street accommodation with Christian help.

We continue to use social media as our main communication platform and recently have started to produce monthly Infographs and seasonal news sheets which we are happy to email any supporters to keep them informed of our patrols. If anyone would like a copy please email our address. We are soon to launch a video which will support our efforts of spreading the Good News of all that we are achieving and will be available for churches to show during their services to aid recruitment and information sharing.

Please continue to prayer for the project across our town and contact us if you require any further information.

Phil Norton
