We used our normal 2 large marquees (one belongs to the Methodist Church and the other was donated to CTB by Patrick Rothon). Moving the equipment from Western Road to Sun Corner was much easier this time as Stuart brought along the Foodbank van to help; we were also able to use it for the return.
Thanks to the Messy Church Team from Emmanuel for providing Jubilee Beacon crafts. We also had iced biscuits, playdough, and extra gluing, sticking and drawing activities. The free 280 lucky dips were as popular as ever.
Outside we had giant bubbles, four in a row and jenga which were in use all day.
The prayer corner was manned by a team from Emmanuel and had a steady stream of folks sitting there chatting and praying.
My thanks to everyone who helped in any way (at least 20 volunteers helped on the day) – it was a lovely sunny day and we were busy most of the day
We set up at one end of the supplied marquee with crafts, iced biscuits and all of the outside activities that we use at the Soapbox Derby (borrowed from the youth club at Western Road). We had a steady stream of families joining us throughout the event, especially the helpers’ children who returned over and over again.
Thank you to all of my volunteers (about 10 of us) and especially those who finished the event for me and tidied up and returned the equipment.
We tried a different layout this year, setting out St Mary’s café style, with small tables and chairs. The refreshments were all donated, or CTB stock, this year, including the paper cups and we served around 100 cuppas with mince pies. We used recorded Christmas hymns and songs, apart from one hour when the combined Anglican choir sang, accompanied by live music. Candles were put out and all lit in the prayer corner. We had a steady stream of local people and visitors whilst open from 11am to 4pm.
Thank you to everyone who donated refreshments, helped in any way on the day and setting up on the Saturday afternoon. The refreshment donations for St Lukes Hospice amounted to £557 and were sent to them in December.
